Article 10 – How do we use cookies?

  1. Cookies used

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file registered on the hard drive of your computer on the request of the server managing the website visited. It contains information on which pages you have browsed on the site. The aim is to facilitate later use of the site by the same person and to browse in an optimum way.

Concretely, how do cookies work?

In your computer is a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.), which manages the cookies. It is this that receives the order to store them from the server (the principle of cookies is part of the HTTP protocol used for exchanges on the Web). It is this that stores them and it is this that enables them to be controlled, according to the wishes of the internet user. Therefore, you can also block any cookie storage (but access to many sites, or at least to the use of their functionalities is then impossible). Browsers enable them to be found, listed and even deleted. Even if you do not delete them, they will disappear because they have an expiry date, of several months or “end of session”, i.e. when you leave the site that you are visiting.
